Prof Marco Abbiati

Science Counsellor, Embassy of Italy to Vietnam

Marco Abbiati graduated in Biology (cum laude) at the University of Pisa obtained the PhD in Environmental Sciences at the University of Genoa. In 1990 joined the research staff of the University of Pisa. In 1998 was appointed Professor in Ecology at the University of Bologna. He actively contributed to the degrees and teaching programmes in BSc in Environmental Sciences and Biological Sciences, MSc in Marine Biology, Sustainability and Management of coastal ecosystems.

Since June 2020 he is on temporary leave form the Academy to take over the position of Science Counsellor at the Embassy of Italy to Vietnam. 

Marco Abbiati main research interests are environmental conservation and sustainable development, with a focus coastal biodiversity, impact of pollution, habitat conservation. He is author and co-author of more the 100 papers published in international scientific journals and of many presentations to national and international conferences. He has been the coordinator of several research projects founded by the EU Framework Programmes, by Italian Ministries and by private companies, addressing fundamental and applied research.
